His Master's Voice / H.M.V.

His Master's Voice (NZ) Ltd dominated the early days of the New Zealand recording industry. It had been releasing 78s in New Zealand since the mid 1940s. It lunched the His Master's Voice label locally in 1949. It stared releasing singles in the seven inch vinyl format in 1955. Until the mid 1970's it was the biggest manufacturer and distributor of records in New Zealand.

His Master's Voice: 1955 to 1960

Most early singles on His Master's Voice were issued in the below purple sleeve but some were issued in the the company's generic sleeve.

In 1960, the sleeve design was changed.

In 1964 the classic red sleeve was introduced.

The above red sleeve was mainly printed featuring the same design on both sides. Occasionally it was issued with advertising on the back.

H.M.V. 1970 to 1972

In 1970 His Master Voice shorted its name to HMV. Singles were still issued in the above  standard red company sleeve.

In 1972 H.M.V (New Zealand) Ltd was re-branded as EMI (New Zealand) Ltd.
