Before 1963, the American label Atlantic Records' catalogue was licensed in New Zealand to various local labels, usually by Artist. In 1963 G. A Wooller & Co Ltd obtained the rights to be the sole distributor of Atlantic Records in New Zealand. They formed the subsidiary label Atlantic Records (NZ) Ltd.

In 1966 Festival Records (NZ) split from G. A. Wooller & Co Ltd and took over the distribution of Atlantic Records. From 1966 until 1970 Atlantic singles were issued in the generic Festival company sleeve.

In 1970 H.M.V. obtained the licensing and distribution rights for Atlantic Records in New Zealand. Singles were issued in a unique sleeve.

In 1972 H.M.V.'s distribution arm was renamed EMI. The Sleeve design was changed.
