This site provides information about the record company sleeves used for New Zealand pressed and distributed 7" vinyl 45s. There are some gaps and possible mistakes. If you can add a correct date or sleeve please add a comment or email us. The images of the centre labels are meant to be a guide. Some record companies produced multiple variations of their labels. Too many to show here. This site is dedicated to record sleeves.

RCA / RCA Victor

The Radio Corporation of New Zealand Ltd had been operating since 1928. It released and distributed several labels including the TANZA label in 1949. In 1956 it obtained the New Zealand licensing rights to the American label RCA Victor. It marketed it locally as RCA. That same year it started releasing 78s. In 1957 they started releasing singles in the seven inch 45rpm format.

In the late 1950's RCA introduced a series of unique sleeves for Elvis Presley singles. I am unsure how many there were.

In 1963 The Radio Corporation of New Zealand Ltd changed the name of the label to RCA Victor.

The below sleeve was introduced in 1969. Early sleeves have 'Distributed by Radio Corporation of New Zealand Ltd' printed on them. At some point, I am unsure when, the sleeve changed to 'Distributed by Pye'. If you can shed some light on this please leave a comment.

From 1972 to 1975 the A-Side of singles were referred to as Heads and the B-Side as Tails as was the case with most Pye subsidiary labels.

In 1975 RCA Victor terminated it's licensing agreement with Pye (NZ) Ltd and set up it's own company in New Zealand called RCA (NZ) Ltd. A year later it merged with the Australian branch and became RCA Ltd Australia and New Zealand. A new unique RCA sleeve was reintroduced in 1975.
